How to Take care of your item

Every single item is unique, like finger prints, no two pieces of wood are the same.
Your item has been meticulously created, from the selected timber to the precise hand finishing process that takes weeks to complete.
Care for your item and it will last for lifetimes to come.

For optimal care for your item please follow the below guide:

  • Each item is hand finished in 3 coats of Pure Australian Tung Oil
    • Tung oil is a natural oil from the Tung Nut which is believed to have been around and used as early as 400 – 500 BC.
    • Tung oil reacts with oxygen in the air polymerising into a hardened state that offers both strength and protection, and is known for upholding these qualities for lifetimes. Items finished with Tung oil are also quite easily repaired and are able to have its finish re-applied.
    • Once fully cured becomes water resistant, alcohol resistant and is known to be hypoallergenic and completely food safe.
    • Slight odour is normal during the curing timeĀ  which can take 30-45 days from the final coat has dried (30-45 days from the date of sending is the safest calculation). This smell will fade as the curing process completes.
    • During curing, light use is recommended, minimising exposure to moisture and alcohol.
    • Any large impact that penetrates into the wood will compromise the oil finish and may result in damage to the item.
  • As with any wood product, extended exposure to alcohol or moisture may result in discoloration of the item or warping.
  • Clean your item by wiping with a damp cloth using water only, allowing to fully air dry between.
  • Do not use any harsh chemicals or cleaning agents other then water, as this may result in damage to the Tung Oil finish and resulting damage to your item.
  • Do not fully immerse your item or expose to other chemicals.
